Dashing / Dry Dashing

Dashing is the name used to describe the application of decorative aggregates into a wet render normally applied to a masonry background i.e.brickwork, blockwork etc. A render of suitable colour, strength and consistency is applied to a well prepared sound substrate. The substrate can also be meshed where there are concerns over the integrity of the substrate and / or insulated to suit the design requirements.

Once the render has stiffened sufficiently decorative aggregates are broadcast into the render using a throwing action towards the render in one plain only. Aggregate that have failed to adhere on the first "throw" can be swept up from a clean surface and re-applied

The finished aggregate surface can be flattened if desired by lightly pushing the aggregate with a wood float.
