Rochdale – New Build : Pump Screeds

Problem

During the construction of the above building a severe storm occurred resulting in flooding of the ground floor concrete slab that was being laid. Following drying out of the concrete slab significant quantities of laitance formed a week crust on top of the concrete surface and levels were out of tolerance. Both conditions were outside specification and a solution was sought.

Solution

Bosa proposed enclosed vacuum blasting to prepare the floor surfaces followed by the installation of a pump screed to achieve the floor tolerances, finish and wearing characteristics required by the designer and client. The works including setting levels was completed in 4 days and the floor was accessible to foot traffic the following day. This caused minimal disruption to the main contractor and other trades requiring access.
