Case studies: National Mining Museum

National Mining Museum of England
Caphouse Colliery
Wakefield – Refurbishment : Concrete Repair

The pit head baths and office building were suffering from cracked and spalling concrete as a result of weathering. This created a dangerous environment from falling material for visitors and office staff.

The museum required the repairs to be in keeping with a mining industrial building of weathered appearance rather than new look as is more commonly the case.

Using fibre reinforced polymer mortars, 6mm gravel aggregates and colour pigments our experienced workforce mixed and finished materials to produce surfaces consistent with adjacent original weathered concrete while maintaining structural integrity in the new components.
