Project – Grimsby Dock Tower
Client – Britcon
Location – Grimsby, Port Sand
Materials – Cement Lime
Scope of works:
- Hand Rail Replacement
- Brick Replacements
- Re-Pointing
- Grill Replacement
- Timber Deck Replacement
- Repairing Joists to Roof
About the project:
BOSA Contracts were instructed by our client Britcon to help carry out major restoration works on Grade 1 listed, 94m, Grimsby Dock Tower. With its coastal position and completed in 1852, the tower had been exposed to the elements and suffered severe weathering over the years.
All methodology and materials used on this project had to be approved by both English Heritage and the local council conservation officer.
Bricks from other buildings in the Port of a similar age were used to ensure a close match to the originals. Samples were taken from the original lime mortar and analysed, so as to ensure the new mortar would weather and colour in the same way.
Our work on this project lasted a total of 8 weeks.
